Preparing for Galas

One of the first things your child may be involved in with the Club (apart from the training) will be a Gala. Swimmers must keep warm when not swimming, as they stiffen up and cannot swim well later. They must have some warm poolside clothes for the body, shoes and socks for the feet, and spare clothes, as they get extremely wet if swimmers are competing in a number of races.

Therefore, they should take the following to Galas for the poolside:

  • Club hat (also to be worn during warm ups at Meets)
  • Club costume - at least 3
  • Club tracksuit
  • Sweatshirt
  • Socks
  • Towels - at least 2/3
  • Tee shirts (2 minimum)
  • Goggles - at least 2 pairs
  • Spare hats - Club hats
  • Pool shoes
  • Packed lunch/tea if necessary.
  • All this will probably get wet, so a complete dry change should be available. It is also a good idea to have everything named.

It is also good practice to leave a separate plastic bottle of shampoo and conditioner in their bags for Galas, but make sure they do not get spilt. Glass bottles are absolutely forbidden!

On cold winter evenings, it is also a must to have a warm hat and gloves to wear home, even if your child never normally wears them, as they are bound to have wet hair after the Gala.
