These are competitions which are restricted to members of our own club. Entry for these competitions is by swimmer, with entry fees paid by swimmer or their parents.
Club Championships
The Club Championships are run every year over several weekends in November and December. They are open to all members and we cover all the events in the County Championships. Trophies are awarded to the best swimmers in each age group and event. We now use the one start rule for this competition to give our swimmers experience of this rule for major competitions.
Presidents Cup
This gala is held in January or February and is open to all members. It covers the four main strokes over 50m. Points are awarded for each event by comparing the swimmer’s time with the base times for the stroke, age and sex of the swimmer using the table below. The formula for calculating the points for an individual event is as follows:
Points = 100.5 – (Swimmer’s Time – Base Time) * 100 / Base Time
The points for each event are then totaled, ignoring the one with the lowest number, so the total is based on the swimmer’s three best strokes.

Ribbon Galas
We hold four Ribbon Galas regularly spaced throughout the year for swimmers in teaching groups 3 to 7. These galas are to give our youngsters in experience of competing under ASA Law and Technical Rules. They cover the main four strokes over 25m followed by a 4 by 25m individual medley for those brave enough. Ribbons are awarded to the top six swimmers in each stroke and age group or swimming group (we alternate this), with trophies for the best swimmers overall.
