A sound Masters swim programme, based at a good training environment with a professionally structured training, has been established as the basis for a long term commitment to encourage the Bracknell & Wokingham Masters membership to achieve levels of fitness and technical stroke ability to ensure that personal targets of fitness and competitive standards can be attained.
Jim Dobinson, an A.S.A. Coach who also has achieved the A.S.A. Masters Module, organizes the program of training. Jim has been involved in Masters Coaching for the last fifteen years and has coached Master Swimmers and Triathletes from club and County levels and many have achieved high levels of success at National, European and World Champion standards.
General aims of the Masters Swim Program
The general aims of the program of training are structured to ensure that all personal targets of fitness can be achieved and enable the master swimmers to compete at the general Open and County Meets and working progressively through to the elite competitions at National, European and World Championship levels. The masters program will also cater for Triathletes or similar sports persons who want to achieve higher standards at both technical and performance levels of their swimming. All swimmers within the master program are given profile sheets to help communicate to our Coach their personal area’s of development and aspirations. Our Coach also encourages the Masters swimmers to ask for advice and guidance as to how they can plan a program of sessions to achieve their personal targets. As part of the Masters Coach commitment our coach will aim to provide support at the various competitions that are programmed into the masters event calendar.
During the coming year there are aims to broaden the scope of the training programme and to experience some additional facets of training principles that will help to provide the essential variety to the overall programme of Masters training. Training Days or Weekends at the local 50m pool and possibly a week’s trip abroad to train in sunnier climates are also ideas for the future. Open forums to discuss a variety of related topics to benefit the master’s swimmers are also intended for the coming year.
Bracknell and Wokingham Masters would like to welcome any Masters swimmers to come and join their sessions and will be assured a friendly and positive response, which will assuredly develop into a long-term association. It is not all work and no play, there are times during the year when we will meet socially and unwind from the stresses of life and training. New ideas are always welcomed.
