Bracknell and Wokingham Swimming Club (BWSC) will endeavor to enable access to swimming tuition and coaching to all individuals. It is our intention to meet an individual swimmer's needs to the best of our abilities whatever special need or disability.

BWSC is not obliged to accept all individuals into swimming groups. If it was not in an individual’s best interests, or the group’s best interests then the individual would not be able to access the group. All efforts would be made to implement strategies to support the individual to access the groups within the resources of the Club.

If an individual is deemed as having special needs/disabilities it is our policy to carry out an assessment of the needs of that individual. This process would be carried out with the family/carers of the individual.

By assessing need we will identify what support is required for that individual to access swimming tuition/coaching within the Club. A decision will then be made as to whether the club has the facilities/skills required to support the individual. All efforts would be made to support every individual. However, this would only be within the facilities and skills of existing resources.

By assessing need we would also identify any risks presented to the individual by accessing swimming tuition. We would carry out risk assessments to assess the level of risk and to implement strategies to reduce the risks to the individual. This process would be carried out with the family/carers of the individual. If the risks out weigh the benefits to the individual it may be deemed as inappropriate for that individual to access the groups within the club. If this were the case then the individual would be provided with information regarding more appropriate swimming clubs that may be more equipped to support the individual. Any risk assessments implemented would need to be agreed by all parties and reviewed regularly to ensure reduced risk and to review the strategy in place.

BWSC intend to enable individuals with disabilities to integrate into mainstream groups if we are able to meet their specific needs. Staff working within BWSC will be expected to have a positive, non-discriminatory approach to all individuals despite their disability or any challenges that they may present. Staff will receive regular supervision to enable them to raise any concerns that they may have and to enable us to implement and support strategies required. Any strategies implemented to reduce risk or to support specific individuals would be implemented with the support and agreement of the teaching team to ensure safety and consistency.

BWSC would like to point out that they are unable to administer any form of medication to individuals and if an individual required medication they would need to be accompanied by a person able to administer that medication. If the needs or level of support required by an individual changes then the support and strategies implemented would have to be reviewed with the support of the family/carers of the individual.
