Andrew Willis successfully negotiated the heats of the 200m Breastsroke on day 5 of the World Championships in
Shanghai.
Andrew progressed through the semi final to reach the final setting a personal best time of 2:10.49 to qualify fifth fastest just ahead of his training partner Michael Jamieson. Afterwards Andrew commented "I like rising to these big occasions. You have the adrenaline and the best swimmers around you and it all helps. I'm just going to go for it and give it my best. I still can't believe I'm in the final so it should be a great experience." In the final Andrew finished eigth in 2:11.29 which is a major achievement considering Andrew made his first major championship debut at last year's Commonwealth Games in Delhi. "I would like to have gone quicker," said Andrew. "But it was my first World Championship final so it's a great experience and I'm delighted to be in there."Andrew is currently studying and training at Bath University |
